How to read the table

Questions

Which central bank rate matters most for forex?

The gap between the two currencies' rates and where it is heading. A currency whose central bank is raising rates (or is expected to) tends to attract money; cuts tend to weigh on it.

Why is the Fed shown as a range?

The Federal Reserve sets a target range for the federal funds rate (for example 3.75 to 4.00 percent) instead of a single rate. The calculator uses the middle of the range.

How often are these rates updated?

After every scheduled decision we check the bank's official page and update the table. When a decision day has passed and the row is not updated yet, it says 'decision due' with the link.

How do rate decisions affect gold?

Higher US rates raise the cost of holding gold, which pays no interest, so hikes and a firmer dollar often weigh on gold; cuts tend to support it. Positioning in the COT report shows how funds react.

Where do I see the decisions as they happen?

On our news page, which lists Fed, ECB and other central bank releases with links to the source.
