Fibonacci retracement and extension calculator

After a strong move, price often pulls back part of the way before going on. The Fibonacci levels mark the usual pullback depths and the targets beyond the move.

LevelPrice

How to use it

  1. Find the last clear swing: its high and its low.
  2. Say whether the move went up or down.
  3. Read the retracements (where a pullback may stop) and the extensions (targets beyond the move).

Worked example

Gold rallied from 4,000 to 4,150. The 61.8 % retracement is 4,150 − 150 × 0.618 = 4,057.30, the 50 % level 4,075, and the 161.8 % extension 4,000 + 150 × 1.618 = 4,242.70.

The formula

Retracement (move up) = high − (high − low) × level; extension = low + (high − low) × level

Questions

Which Fibonacci level is the strongest?

61.8 % and 50 % get the most attention. 50 % is not a Fibonacci ratio but traders watch it anyway.

What is the golden zone?

The area between 61.8 % and 78.6 %, a common pullback zone in trends.

Should I trade every Fibonacci level?

No. Use them where they meet other reasons: a previous level, a pivot, or the session open.
