Lot size calculator for forex and gold
لاٹ سائز کیلکولیٹر: فاریکس اور گولڈ
लॉट साइज़ कैलकुलेटर: फॉरेक्स और गोल्ड
Decide the risk first, then let the stop loss set the size. Enter your balance, how much of it you accept to lose on this trade and how far the stop is: the calculator gives the lot size that loses exactly that amount if the stop is hit.
How to use it
- Pick the instrument. Gold (XAUUSD) is 100 ounces per lot at most brokers; open the settings to change it.
- Enter the balance and the risk: 1 % of the balance is a common limit, or type a fixed amount in USD.
- Enter the stop distance in pips, or switch to price for the distance in dollars (for gold, a $5 stop).
- Use the rounded lot size: it is rounded down, so the real risk is never above the plan.
Worked example
Balance 2,000 USD, risk 1 % = 20 USD, EUR/USD with a 25-pip stop. One lot moves 10 USD per pip, so 25 pips cost 250 USD per lot: 20 ÷ 250 = 0.08 lots. Gold with a $5 stop: one lot (100 oz) loses 500 USD, so 20 ÷ 500 = 0.04 lots.
The formula
Lots = risk in USD ÷ (stop distance in price × contract size × USD per quote currency unit)
Questions
How do I calculate lot size for gold?
Risk in USD ÷ (stop in dollars × 100). With 20 USD risk and a $4 stop on XAUUSD: 20 ÷ 400 = 0.05 lots. Check your broker's contract size; a few use 10 or 1 ounce per lot.
What is a good risk per trade?
Many traders keep it between 0.5 % and 2 % of the balance, so a losing streak does not empty the account.
Why is the lot size rounded down?
Brokers only accept steps such as 0.01. Rounding down keeps the loss at the stop at or below what you chose.
What if the result is below 0.01 lots?
Then even the smallest trade risks more than your limit. Wait for a setup with a closer stop or skip it.
