Average down (average price) calculator
If you bought more than once, your real entry is the average of all buys weighted by size. That average is also your break-even price.
How to use it
- Enter each buy: its price and quantity (shares, coins, ounces or lots).
- Add more rows for more buys.
- Enter today's price to see the open profit or loss.
Worked example
10 shares at 100 and 10 more at 80: (1,000 + 800) ÷ 20 = 90 average. At 95 the position shows +100 (+5.56 %).
The formula
Average price = Σ(price × quantity) ÷ Σ quantity
Questions
Is averaging down a good idea?
Only within a plan made before the first buy. Adding to a loser without a stop can turn a small loss into a large one.
Does the average include fees?
No. Add the fees to the cost of each buy for the exact break-even price.
Can I use it for averaging up?
Yes, the maths is the same for buys at higher prices.
