Crypto position size calculator with leverage
On crypto exchanges you size by coins, not lots. The risk comes from the distance to your stop; leverage only decides how much of the balance is locked as margin. Fees are included in the size.
How to use it
- Enter the balance and the % you accept to lose.
- Enter the entry and the stop price (works for longs and shorts).
- Set the leverage and your exchange's fee per side.
Worked example
Balance 1,000 USDT, risk 1 % = 10 USDT, BTC entry 110,000 and stop 108,000 (2,000 away), fee 0.05 % per side (about 109 per coin): 10 ÷ 2,109 = 0.00474 BTC, worth 521.6 USDT; at 10× the margin is 52.2 USDT.
The formula
Coins = risk ÷ (|entry − stop| + (entry + stop) × fee %); margin = coins × entry ÷ leverage
Questions
Does higher leverage increase my risk?
Not by itself: the loss at the stop is set by the position size. High leverage brings the liquidation price closer, so keep your stop well before it.
Why include fees?
Taker fees on both sides add up on big positions; including them keeps the full loss at the stop within your risk.
Does this work for shorts?
Yes: put the stop above the entry; the size is the same.
