Compounding calculator for trading accounts
Growth on growth: each month earns its % on a bigger balance. Try realistic numbers, and see what monthly deposits or withdrawals do to the result.
How to use it
- Enter the start balance and a monthly % you can honestly expect.
- Set the number of months (up to 240).
- Add a monthly deposit, or a negative number for a monthly withdrawal.
Worked example
1,000 USD at 3 % a month for 12 months grows to 1,425.76 USD; 3 % a month is about 42.6 % a year. At 10 % a month the same 12 months would give 3,138 USD: few traders keep that up.
The formula
Each month: end = start × (1 + % ÷ 100) + deposit; yearly % = (1 + monthly %)¹² − 1
Questions
Is 10 % a month realistic?
Very rarely and not for long. Professional funds are pleased with 10 to 20 % a year; use the calculator to see how much a small steady % already adds up.
What about losing months?
A 10 % loss needs an 11.1 % gain to recover. Steady small gains compound better than big swings.
Can I plan withdrawals?
Yes: enter the monthly withdrawal as a negative number.
