Weekly net position of large speculators (non-commercial longs minus shorts); the dashed line is zero. Positions on 27 Oct 2026, published on 30 Oct 2026.
What it means for GBPUSD
GBPUSD is quoted the same way as the future: a net long in pound futures is a position for a stronger pound against the dollar, a net short a position for a weaker one.
Sterling reacts sharply to UK inflation and to the Bank of England's tone. Speculators often swing from long to short and back within a few months around rate decisions, so the weekly change in the pound position can say as much as its level.
When the next report comes out
The CFTC publishes on Friday at 3:30 pm New York time (Fri 6 Nov): that is Sat 7 Nov, 1:30 AM PKT in Pakistan and Sat 7 Nov, 2:00 AM IST in India. The positions it shows are from the Tuesday before.

Questions
How fast does the pound position change?
Faster than most majors. Swings of tens of thousands of contracts in a few weeks are common around Bank of England meetings and UK inflation releases.
What should I watch next to the GBP COT report?
The Bank of England decision dates and the UK inflation releases on our economic calendar, and the euro position, because EURGBP flows also move the pound.
Which sterling contract does the report count?
CME British pound futures, 62,500 pounds per contract, from the CFTC legacy futures-only report: the non-commercial long and short positions.
