Weekly net position of large speculators (non-commercial longs minus shorts); the dashed line is zero. Positions on 27 Oct 2026, published on 30 Oct 2026.
What it means for NZDUSD
NZDUSD is quoted the same way as the future: a net long in kiwi futures is a position for a stronger New Zealand dollar against the US dollar, a net short a position for a weaker one.
The New Zealand dollar is a small commodity currency (dairy is the big export) whose rates have often been among the higher ones of the majors, so its position mixes carry and risk appetite. Its futures market is much smaller than the Australian dollar's, so a few large traders can move the totals.
When the next report comes out
The CFTC publishes on Friday at 3:30 pm New York time (Fri 6 Nov): that is Sat 7 Nov, 1:30 AM PKT in Pakistan and Sat 7 Nov, 2:00 AM IST in India. The positions it shows are from the Tuesday before.

Questions
Why can the NZD position swing so much?
Open interest in New Zealand dollar futures is small. A handful of funds adding or closing positions can turn the net figure from long to short within weeks.
Do the Reserve Bank of New Zealand's decisions show in the position?
Often. Speculators move ahead of and after its rate decisions; compare the weekly change with the decision dates on our central bank rates page.
Where do the kiwi dollar figures come from?
CME New Zealand dollar futures, 100,000 New Zealand dollars per contract, from the CFTC legacy futures-only report: the non-commercial long and short positions.
