Funding rate calculator for perpetual futures
Type the position size and the funding rate: see what you pay or receive each interval, over the days you hold, and as a yearly rate.
How funding works
Perpetual futures have no expiry, so exchanges keep their price near spot with funding: when the rate is positive, longs pay shorts every interval (usually 8 hours); when it is negative, shorts pay longs. Funding = position size × rate.
Worked example
A $10,000 long at +0.01 % every 8 hours pays $1 per interval, 3 a day: $90 over 30 days, about 11 % a year of the position.
Questions
Who pays funding?
With a positive rate longs pay shorts; with a negative rate shorts pay longs. Nobody pays the exchange (it only passes the money between traders).
Does funding count against my margin?
Yes: it is added to or taken from your position's margin each interval.
Why is the yearly number so high?
Small rates every 8 hours add up: 0.01 % three times a day is about 11 % a year.
